Karl Ruping, Managing PartnerKarl, Managing Partner, has over 15 years of experience in international patent protection, intellectual property licensing, and intangible asset valuation in global mergers and acquisitions. He founded incTANK Ventures in 1999 while a Fellow in MIT’s School of Engineering to invest in and support university technology ventures.

Karl is also a Bar certified lawyer (NY & MA) and a registered US patent attorney with a technical background in computational science. With a B.A. in Economics from Colby College and J.D. from Boston University, Karl was a Fellow at Harvard University and did post-doctoral studies at the University of Tokyo, before arriving at MIT as a Fellow in the School of Engineering.

Karl’s investment focus is in computational and life sciences, with a particular interest in medical devices.

Chad Jackson, General PartnerChad has spent over 15 years working in investment management and early-stage venture capital. He started his career at Bear Stearns before moving to managing family office venture investing at Intercontinental Ventures and then Sparks Street Capital. Chad focused on eCommerce and software at the Silicon Valley office of Softbank Technology Ventures before establishing Softbank’s early stage venture arm in Boston in 1999.

Chad holds a B.A. in Economics from Franklin & Marshall College.

Chad’s areas of focus include consumer products and life sciences.

Masanobu Tsukagoshi, General PartnerMasanobu (Mas) has over 13 years of experience in new issue syndication and multi-currency illiquid asset management. He established the first Far East Asia capital market business unit of the Bank of Boston (now Bank of America) before joining WestLB’s Tokyo branch to lead their Emerging Markets division.

Mas is the lead partner in IncTANK’s Tokyo office, where he supports business development initiatives for our portfolio companies while managing strategic relations with our co-investors across Asia. He currently sits on the national committee of Japan’s Intellectual Property Strategy Consultation Program for new ventures and small/medium enterprises while also lecturing on entrepreneurship and intellectual property strategies at the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, and Nagoya University. Mas earned his CBA from Konan University (Kobe, Japan) and an MBA in International Finance from the University of Pittsburgh.

Mas’ areas of focus lie in materials and computational sciences.
