Karl has over 15 years of experience in international patent protection, intellectual property licensing, and intangible asset valuation in global mergers and acquisitions. He founded incTANK Ventures in 1999 while a Fellow in MIT’s School of Engineering to invest in and support university technology ventures.

Karl is also a Bar certified lawyer (NY & MA) and a registered US patent attorney with a technical background in computational science. Fluent in Japanese and German, he has studied at Colby College, the London School of Economics, Harvard University, and the University of Tokyo, in addition to MIT.

Karl’s investment focus is in computational and life sciences, with a particular interest in medical devices.
